Atopic Allergy
Atopy is a predisposition to have allergic reactions. People who
have this predisposition are called atopic.
Atopic people often have at least one allergic condition, such as
asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), atopic dermatitis, hives or angioedema, or food allergies. The tendency to develop
these kinds of allergies runs in families.
Signs and Symptoms
There are many different types of allergic conditions. The most
common allergy symptoms affect the nose, sinuses, lungs, and eyes. However, in some conditions organs such as the skin, digestive
system, and blood vessels can be affected as well. For a complete list of symptoms visit National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
