Myasthenia Gravis
Most often, an acquired disorder that results in fatigable muscle
weakness, made worse by activity and improved with rest. It results
from an autoimmune attack against the nerve-muscle junction. Other forms of the illness are caused by architectural changes of the nerve-muscle junction.
Signs and Symptoms:
Although myasthenia gravis may affect any voluntary muscle, muscles
that control eye and eyelid movement, facial
expression, and swallowing are most frequently affected. The onset
of the disorder may be sudden. Symptoms
often are not immediately recognized as myasthenia gravis.
